PROPHECY (SPEAKING GIFTS)

The God-given special ability to serve and strengthen the body of Christ by offering messages from God that comfort, encourage, guide, warn, or reveal sin in a way that leads to repentance and spiritual growth. The original Greek meaning of this worked is “to speak forth the truth.” The gift of prophecy includes both “forth telling (preaching), and “foretelling” (revelation).

 

The divine enablement to proclaim God’s truth with power and clarity in a timely and culturally sensitive fashion for correction, repentance or edification.

 

People with this gift:

  • Love to share your strong biblical convictions with others.
  • View yourself as God’s too, ready to be used by the Holy Spirit in changing lives.
  • Find it easy to confront others’ motives when they are not up to God’s standards.
  • Frequently receive and share messages directly from God for comforting, challenging, and confronting his people.
  • Expose sin or deception in others for the purpose of reconciliation.
  • Speak a timely word from God causing conviction, repentance, and edification.
  • See truth that others often fail to see and challenge them to respond.
  • Warn of God’s immediate heart and mind through experiences He takes them through.

Traits: Discerning, compelling, uncompromising, outspoken, authoritative, convincing, and confronting.

 

Cautions: People with this gift:

  • Need to be aware that listeners may reject the message if not spoke with love and compassion.
  • Need to avoid pride that can create a demanding or discouraging spirit that hinders the gift.
  • Should remember that discernment and scripture must support and agree with each prophecy.
